A Season Full of Intriguing Heritage Stories at the Aurora Cultrual Centre

Fascinating topics with intriguing titles; the Aurora Cultural Centre is proud to announce five new heritage lectures for the coming months. With subjects ranging from "Little Jerusalem" to "How the Word Got Around", and the intriguingly titled "The Worst Place Inside the Corporation", each talk is designed to illuminate facets and personalities of Aurora's history.

January 18, 2012 7pm
"Little Jerusalem" - presented by Jacqueline Stuart
The fascinating story of Michael Shulman, a Russian immigrant whose impact on the town's built environment can be seen all around us.

February 15, 2012 7pm
Antique Furniture from 19th-century Ontario - presented by John McIntyre
Furniture from pioneer Ontario to the days of the Industrial Revolution. Audience members are invited to also bring along questions about their own furniture.

March 21, 2012 7pm
"The Worst Place Inside the Corporation" - presented by Jacqueline Stuart
Where in Aurora could this building - and area - possibly be?

April 18, 2012 7pm
Postcards of Old Aurora: The McRoberts Collection - presented by Bob McRoberts
A digital unveiling of his vast and unique collection of local postcards, alongside current photos.

May 16, 2012 7 pm
How the Word Got Around: An Historical Look at Local Newspapers - presented by Ron Wallace
A glimpse into past days of news media in Aurora - from an expert in the field!

All four lecturers are well-known to the Aurora community. Jacqueline Stuart, who inaugurated this series, was Curator of the Aurora Museum for 25 years. Dr. John McIntyre, in addition to being Curator of the Sharon Temple National Historic Site, was Guest Curator of the ROM's "Ontario at Home" exhibition. Bob McRoberts, an Aurora High School teacher, is an active member of the Board of the Aurora Historical Society. Ron Wallace, founder of The Auroran newspaper, recently retired as Editor of the publication.

These informal illustrated talks generally last from 45 minutes to 1 hour, and questions are encouraged. Admission by donation is gratefully received; light refreshments are provided.
